Yesterday, a dear friend of mine mentioned to me when carolers came by her daughter’s hospital room, she could barely stomach it. My response: “We are getting a little taste to how He feels about the mixture of Christmas. Remember that Revelation 3:16 tells us that anything lukewarm (i.e. mixture), He will vomit out of His mouth. It turns one’s stomach.” Little did I expect to be writing about this topic today, but I yield to His heart.
The bi-polar (mixture) nature of Christmas is in its DNA. When Americans say the word “Christmas,” they are either discussing: (1) the religious events, which commemorate Jesus’ birth or (2) the secular celebrations characteristic of midwinter celebrations – annual traditions that predate Christ’s birth: the lights, the evergreen decorations, the gift giving, the music, the food, the chance to get together with family and friends, and the special feeling of warmth that the season brings. From its inception, the Christmas celebration has been a concoction of preexisting pagan winter revels MIXED with Christian subject matter; and because of this, it never was, nor can it ever be, the pure spiritual holiday that so many wish it would be. Who would have guessed that a prophetic message exists in the Christmas tradition of stuffing stockings? The message comes to us via Numbers 5:11-31, which gives insight on how Yah (God) deals with infidelity. BTW – This is the only judicial procedure in the Bible that required His supernatural intervention.
The Bible speaks of jealousy when idolatry is referenced and when a suspicious husband justifiably claims that his wife has been unfaithful. These cases are one and the same. Idolatry deals with infidelity to Yah while adultery deals with infidelity to one’s spouse. The marital relationship between a husband and wife is a microcosm of the relationship between the Messiah and His Bride. Please feel free to insert “church” when I speak of a woman or wife, and insert the Messiah when I speak of a man or husband.
Numbers 5:11-31 deals with a woman, who behaved in such a way that her husband had good reason to suspect her of adultery, but there’s a lack of admissible proof for her guilt or innocence. This miraculous process will either prove her guilt or innocence. In Biblical times, if she sinned in Yah’s eyes this procedure caused both her death and that of her illicit lover. If the woman was guilty, the process was designed to induce her confession through the terrifying prospect of her imminent death. And if the woman confessed to infidelity before drinking the bitter waters, the marriage could end in a divorce with no penalty to her since there was no judicially acceptable evidence.
If the woman was falsely accused, her innocence would be firmly established; but if found guilty, she would die a grotesque death. This was such a horrible death that when the people of Israel would curse their enemies, they would say that the fate of an adulteress wife should happen to them. It was also a way to strengthen an oath by saying: “If I am lying, may I suffer the adulterous fate.”
The purpose of this supernatural ordeal was meant to punish adultery and help uproot immorality in God’s people as well as fostering trust between a man and wife. Yah realized that no court decision would foster trust, but the supernatural testimony of Yah would. BTW – This is the only instance in Scripture where YHWH permits His sacred name to be erased.
Let’s quickly fly through the testing of a wayward wife. First of all, a man and a woman had to have secluded themselves for a sufficient amount of time that they could have sinned (Num 5:12-14). Prior to the seclusion, a spirit of jealousy had seized her husband (based on prior improper behavior). The husband had to have warned her to not seclude herself, and she had to have ignored his warning. Two witnesses of their seclusion were required, but these witnesses could not prove that adultery was committed. BTW – If the woman was coerced into seclusion, she was innocent.
The distressed husband was required to bring “the meal-offering of jealousies” (Num 5:15) on behalf of his wife. Note that Yeshua brought the meal-offering for His wayward wife at the cross through the offering up of His body (1 Cor 11:23-24; Eph 5:23-25); and His Body will walk in the same manner as He did (2 John 2:6) filling up what is lacking in regard to Christ’s afflictions, for the sake of His Body, which is the church (Col 1:24).
Attempts were made to induce a confession from the accused wife (Num 5:16). Only a woman who felt she was innocent would endure this extreme ordeal to be vindicated. Numbers 5:17 tells of the sacred water drawn by a priest from the Temple Laver in the Courtyard. The very essence of the Temple Laver recalled the purity of the devout women who used to serve at the doorway of the Tent of Meeting. These women could no longer gaze at themselves, because they had given their copper mirrors as a freewill offering to be melted down and be used exclusively in the making of the Temple Laver. They fixed their eyes upon the sanctifying source of their Living Water – their Messiah. Please remember that before the priests could begin their duties in His Temple they had to sanctify their hands and feet in the Laver (See Matt 22:1-14).
The priest would have the accused woman stand before the LORD and let her hair go loose (reveal her particular manifestation of glory). He would then place the grain offering in her hands, as he held the water of bitterness that brings a curse in an earthenware vessel (Num 5:18). BTW – The bitter waters were only effective if the husband was free from sin himself. The priest would then have her move from place to place in the doorway of the courtyard where devout women served YHWH. Then the priest would uncover the wife’s hair and place the meal-offering on her outstretched palms.
Numbers 5:21-22 goes into detail about the gruesome death the wife would suffer if she was guilty of adultery. “These waters that cause curse shall enter your innards to cause your stomach to distend and thigh to collapse!” (Num 5:22) The stomach distending means that it would stretch out and become swollen, while her thigh collapsing or wasting away refers to her womb, which would be destroyed in retribution for its sinful activity. A swelling, bloated gut that could have exploded! Yuck! Disgusting. BTW – The concept for a stomach distending is the same idea behind Christmas stockings being stuffed to their limits.
The priest would write the oaths contained in Numbers 5:19-22 on a parchment scroll. Ordinarily, at this time, it was forbidden to erase the sacred name, but here Yah commanded that His Name be erased in order to bring peace between man and wife. Can you hear the shadow of the things to come, which speaks of the only begotten Son bridging the gap between Yah and man through His incredible crucifixion (John 3:16)?
The wayward wife was found pure after she went through this arduous, humiliating process. This speaks of the Messiah’s Bride needing to accept the incredible gift of salvation, but she must also go through the strenuous process of sanctification (Phil 2:12). Sanctification requires persistence, humility, and a teachable heart. The bridal commitment requires an additional Spirit-led step of purification, which is an entirely humiliating all-consuming fire process where no flesh will remain.
What we lay down in this life will be nothing compared to what’s eternally gained. Those who wish TO BE (clothed in righteousness) must put aside the gilded confines of Christmas. There is so much more spiritually-speaking beyond its sensual shackles and earthly clutter, and you get to choose TO BE or NOT TO BE. If we don’t endeavor to abide in the Messiah in every corner of our life, we will erect idols. It’s simply how human nature operates.
This Christmas Season won’t you examine the lamb of Christmas that you say you are sacrificing to the King? Is Christmas an unblemished lamb in His eyes? This Christmas Season won’t you examine if the Spirit you say you are worshiping agrees with the distended stockings hung by the chimney with care – or – the Spirit that says: Come out of Babylon, so you will not share in her sins or receive any of her plagues (Rev 18:4). Please refer to the other articles below in this series for the proof of one’s need to come out of Babylon and lay down Christmas to be part of His pure and spotless Bride.

WARNING: I grieve deeply, as I warn people to be aware that those who align with His heart will feel sick to their stomach over the mixture involved in celebrating a Christian Christmas this year. Many will reconsider Christmas as they “pray” over their porcelain gods this year, but many more will harden their hearts. Please do yourself a favor, and do what Yeshua did (John 10:22-23). It’s a new day! We have fully shifted into His Kingdom, and Christ has taken Himself out of Christmas.

I have found when I, as a Christian, admit the historical and Scriptural accuracy as it relates to Christmas, those who are not Christians are pleasantly surprised. When pagans, witches, Hindus, Buddhists, Satanists, etc run into His unconditional love that is joined with a serving of His Truth, I’m seeing walls come down and His light and love illuminating their world.
We will start out with some of the more tame topics. Then strap on your seat belts folks, because it’s a rough roller coaster ride that’s going to take us literally to the depths of hell and to the heights of man building a name and kingdom for themselves.
