Did you know that there is only one New Year (i.e., Rosh Hashanah) mentioned in Scripture? It is found in Ezekiel 40:1 when Ezekiel honored and spoke of God’s New Year – the first of Abib (Aviv or Nisan). Please allow me to emphasize this critical point: Scripture’s only mention of Rosh Hashanah corresponds to the only New Year that God set up in Scripture, the first of Abib in March/April. Today is that day, so HAPPY BIBLICAL NEW YEAR everybody (Rosh Chodashim)!!!
It was not until 170 years (or so years) after the Messiah Yeshua (Jesus Christ) rose from the dead that the current Rosh Ha Shanah celebrated by Judaism and Messianics came about in the fall of the year to replace Yom Teruah (Feast of Trumpets). In 200 AD, Rosh Ha Shanah came to replace Yom Teruah in the Mishnah, which later got incorporated into the Talmud. The Talmud contains Jewish writings that are a commentary on the Torah (the first five books of the Bible). In other words, they are man’s opinions and man’s traditions.
Both Rabbinical Judaism and Constantine Christianity have traditions of man that are keeping us from fulfilling the Word of God. We need to determine His righteous measuring line in all things, in this case — celebrating His Feasts – Biblical Feasts. Not legalistically, but in a life-giving sense. Just know that any canonized form of the Bible has its limitations and its personal agendas. That’s why we need to stick with the first five books of the Bible for the foundations of our faith, i.e. believing Moses. Yeshua actually tells His people this very thing: “For if you believed Moses, you would believe Me; for he wrote about Me. But if you do not believe his writings, how will you believe My words?” (John 5:46-47 NKJV).
Having a New Year celebrated in the seventh month of the year (i.e., autumn) comes from Babylon; therefore it’s a Babylonian tradition to celebrate a New Year for Years in the seventh month. Nehemia Gordon wrote an excellent piece on this “Yom Teruah – How the Day of Shouting Became Rosh Hashanah” – http://www.karaite-korner.org/yom_teruah.shtml: The Babylonians used to have a lunar-solar calendar very similar to the Biblical calendar. The result was that Yom Teruah often fell out on the same day as the Babylonian New Years festival known as “Akitu”. Akitu fell out on the first day of Tishrei as well as six months later on the first of Nisan. That’s right! To make matters more confusing the Babylonians celebrated Akitu – New Years – twice a year. Talk about confusing! (I see some Tower of Babel fingerprints here!) The 1st of Tishrei coincided with Yom Teruah on the 1st day of the Seventh Month. The fact that the Jews had started calling the Seventh Month by the Babylonian name Tishrei paved the way for turning Yom Teruah into a Jewish Akitu. At the same time the Rabbis did not want to adopt Akitu outright, so they Judaized it by changing the name of Yom Teruah (Day of Shouting) to Rosh Hashanah (New Years).
If you have not been told, the Messiah’s Bride will have nothing to do with Babylon. Babylon is all about mixture and confusion. It mixes the holy with the profane, and causes what is pure and spotless in His eyes to be tainted.
Let all Bridal Lovers of YHVH lay down our agendas and traditions on God’s Altar, so we can each make that “offering by fire to the LORD” that Leviticus 23:25 prescribes. Let the All-Consuming Fire’s measuring line of His Word burn up all traditions of men that keep us in Babylon and keeps us from keeping the commandments of God that those who love Him will fulfill (Mark 7:7-9,13; John 14:15; 15:10; 1 John 5:2; 2 John 1:6; Rev 14:12; 18:4).
So not only is today a fantastic New Year that Biblically coincides with a new month on a Biblical Sabbath; but today is the day where Bridal Hearts are putting away all the tradition of men to become ONE with the Way, and the Truth, and the Life (John 14:6). One of His other names is the Word of God (Rev 19:13).
Behold, all thing are truly new, as the total solar eclipse on Nisan 1 (Abib 1 or Aviv 1) proclaims. Significantly there were actually three rare celestial events on Friday, March 20 2015 – the day sundown marks our Biblical New Year. Not only did some areas of the world get plunged into total darkness due to the total solar eclipse, but there was a supermoon as well as the spring equinox. A supermoon happens when a full moon or new moon does its closest fly-by of the earth, making it look bigger that it normally does. The spring equinox refers to the time of the year when day and night are of equal duration. It’s very momentous that there were three signs in the heavens at the same time. Three is the first number in our numeric system that creates a structure, or a space, or a gateway for another dimension. Behold, the Lord Himself does new things this new year – His New Year!!!
May the only One who is worthy – the Ascended Most High God – be praised!
Happy New Year Pure-Hearted One!
