WEREWOLVES & CHRISTMAS

Did you know that there’s an ancient link between Christmas and werewolves?

The World Encyclopedia of Christmas by Gerry Bowler has an entry called WEREWOLVES AND CHRISTMAS: “Christmas in some parts of the world is a time of increased activity by evil spirits, witches, and monsters of all sorts, including humans who transform themselves into wolves.

In the Middle Ages, Olaus Magnus said that in Prussia, Livonia, and Lithuania, werewolves gathered on Christmas night and then spread out to “rage” with wondrous ferocity against human beings … for when a human habitation has been detected by them isolated in the woods, they besieged it with atrocity, striving to break in the doors and in the event of doing so, they devour all human beings, and every animal which is found within.” At a certain castle the monsters held werewolf games, and those too fat to leap over a wall were eaten by their fitter comrades.

It was also a medieval belief in Latvia and Estonia that “at Christmas a boy lame of leg goes around the country summoning the devil’s followers who are countless, to a general conclave. Whoever remains behind, or goes reluctantly, is scourged by another with an iron whip. …The human form vanishes and the whole multitude becomes wolves.” This transformation lasted 12 days.

In Poland, and northeastern Europe, it was believed that a child born on Christmas had a greater chance of becoming a werewolf, and ritual steps were taken to protect Christmas babies from this state.

Louis Frechette’s Christmas in French Canada claims it was the belief in Quebec that “a man who has been seven years without partaking of the Easter Sacrament falls a prey to the infernal power, and may be condemned to rove about every night in the shape and skin of a wolf or any other kind of an animal, according to the nature of his sin. A bloody wound only can release him.”

In Louisiana it is said that Pere Noel travels through the swamps and bayous in a flat-bottomed pirogue pulled by alligators and accompanied by a red-nosed werewolf.”

“Do two walk together unless they have agreed to do so?” (Amos 3:3) Selah… We can name it and claim it all we want; but if we are in agreement with death, darkness and sin, it will affect us. Yes! There is power in the blood of Jesus, but the Bible shows us that if we are in agreement with satanic things, we cannot cast out the things that we are in agreement with. The Bible shows Jesus healing people and saying “Go and sin no more.” Light doesn’t have agreement with darkness. “What agreement has the Temple of God with idols? For you are the Temple of the Living God; as God has  said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, says the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you” (2 Cor 6:16-17). Notice the requirement for touching not the unclean thing (any unclean thing). Yes, we have tons of grace as we grow and learn; but God Himself holds us accountable for anything and everything that He reveals to us. Let us be pure & holy, as He is.

About Robin Main

Robin's premier quest is to love people and love God with all her heart, soul & strength, because without love we all are nothing. After making a vow to Jesus's face during a personal epiphaneous appearance, she wrote a book -- SANTA-TIZING: What's wrong with Christmas and how to clean it up" to share the mysteries she discovered while searching for where Christmas comes from. There are revelations in SANTATIZING that you will not find anywhere else. So throw away the template for Christmas books and come walk on the kingdom side in an examination of America's most loved holiday. Critical thinking is a must while looking through this lens of history and Scripture. You'll be intrigued and enlightened. What's wrong with Christmas? Plenty. This book shines light on various troubling issues in celebrating a Christian Christmas. How to clean it up? This will be determined by you and your family. Since we have an abundance of traditions, memories, and reasons to stay just the way we are (and possibly miss out on becoming part of His Pure & Spotless Bride), SANTA-TIZING primarily explores the valley of the shadows. Please know that in God's Kingdom no person is forced to do anything against their will. Give em heaven!!!
